Review from Greg Marmolejo "The Miner's Ghost"

I didn't read this so much to learn about how Andy Eppler's skepticism changed his art. I read it just because Andy Eppler is endlessly entertaining, and I just wanted to know more about the details of his life. We both grew up in Lubbock, Texas, and Andy takes you right back to his beginnings with the first sentence of the prologue:

"As I wrapped my penis around each knob and fader on the famous mixing board once used by Buddy Holly and Waylon Jennings, I imagined the energy of ther admirable creativity flowing into me and I smiled my biggest smile."

Andy Eppler lays it all out, honestly and in full detail.

What else is there to tell you about Andy? He grew up as a Christian youth minister, and will tell you that he's just trying to undo the damage that he did, when he was a believer. But he's always engaged in some sort of spiritual discussion, in real life or on facebook. He talks about the stuff that really matters, always with an attitude of warmth, humor, and inclusiveness.

Andy Eppler and his wife Jessica make up the musical group, The Prairie Scholars, and I like to call them "Ma and Pa Music of Longmont." Most wayward Texans end up in Austin, but we are hella glad they ended up here in Longmont, Colorado. They bring a lot of life to this town. That's really what made me want to read this book. I just wanted to find out what makes this guy Andy Eppler tick - this guy who so obviously makes our town a better place!

Review from Readers Favorite - By Teodora Totorean

New Reason New Way: How My Skepticism Changed My Art by Andy Eppler is an autobiographic book about the artist’s journey from his childhood to the present day, and into becoming an artist as part of The Prairie Scholars band with his wife, Jessica. The book carries readers through the artist’s formative years when he was in school, through his first steps into music writing and recording, through his thought processes on how he started to question his faith and the belief in Jesus, and how he discovered historical evidence that doesn’t follow the facts from the Bible, as well as how he moved from being religious to non-religious, and how this affected his art. The book finishes with a personal reflection on various forms of art and their characteristics in Eppler’s view, and some answers from different artists about the creative process they go through.

Autobiographies are always great to read because when you admire an artist in any field, you want to know more about his or her creative process and what his or her art is all about. In that respect, New Reason New Way: How My Skepticism Changed My Art by Andy Eppler offers precisely what you expect from the genre. Written in the first person in a friendly voice, the book feels authentic and real. Not only do you get to enter into the artist’s universe, but you also get to learn about his thinking, his life and his message to the world. I particularly enjoyed the chapter dedicated to his wife, Jessica, who is also a member of the band, as well as reading some lyrics which made me want to know more about the band and Eppler’s music.

Review By Craig Cornett of (Craig Cornett and the Phast and Wreckless.

Friends,
I just finished Andy Eppler's book New Reason New Way How My Skepticism Changed My Art. I strongly suggest the you get a copy of this thoughtful and wonderful book. If you are an artist of any genre or have any interest in the creative process this book is a more than worthwhile read. It is a truthful and well thought out treatise on creativity in it's most sublime beauty. This young friend of mine has touched me at the deepest levels as a songwriter and a member of my local community. If you can't buy it steal it somewhere!! Thanks Andy.

Review from a reader on Amazon

First time author, Andy Eppler, has written a book that combines a coming of age story along with a look at the difficulties of doubting periods of life and how they affect one's art. Eppler describes, with cringe worthy clarity, the repression and prejudicial indoctrination that occurs when one is raised In a homogenous religious environment along with the often confusion and emotions of breaking free and moving in a different direction from "the fold". I am not going to give away the content of the book, as it should be savored, experienced, and provide some hilarious and moving moments. If you grew up on the high plains of Texas...buy this book. If you didn't...buy this book. if you are an artist trying to find your way...buy this book. If you enjoy a irreverent and funny read... buy this book. If you are a musician or love one...buy this book. If you are struggling to throw off the the cloak of your childhood in order to find your authentic self....buy this book.

Press Release for "New Reason New Way"

http://www.prlog.org/12367449-andy-eppler-releases-book-on-his-art-philosophy.html

Sep. 4, 2014 - LONGMONT, Colo. -- Colorado based artist Andy Eppler has always been a hyperprolific producer creating many albums, poems and paintings over the years. Over those years Mr. Eppler has found many friends and followers who are interested in his work and upon making prerelease copies of his new book "New Reason New Way" available that audience quickly purchased three fifths of the first edition copies int he first thirty days.

"I couldn't believe how many we were selling. I guess people really are interested in art and in dissecting the creative process. I'm always shocked by the amazing support we get from our community here in Colorado and online." Remarked Eppler.

In New Reason New Way, life long artist and  half of the Colorado based duet The Prairie Scholars, Andy Eppler, recounts his creative journey from superstition to repeatable process with regard to making his art. After losing his faith in the God of his childhood, Andy began a search for more concrete answers to his questions.

“If there is no God, what is that feeling of perfect inspiration?”

“What is art?”

“What is the role of an artist in society?”

In New Reason New Way Andy tackles each question and many more with purpose, tenacity, and good humor. Using his unique perspective and powers of reasoning Andy also explains how one can navigate the obstacles that often block the path of creative people trying to produce work. This book is not only about why an artist kept making art even after his original reason for making it had vanished, it is also about how that artist reinvented his process and reimagined his work. This is the new reason and the new way.

The ebook is available at fine online retailers everywhere including:

Amazon.com, Kobobooks.com, Goodreads.com, and many others.
